Apeiron RPG Refactor and Optimization for GDC 2024
in Freelance,Unreal Engine
After working freelance for ER Studios LLC, I was closely followed by their owner for any opportunity I could be brought back. When the Netflix project was no more, I hired back a year later for more work. This time I was tasked with refactoring the entire Save Game with World Partition loading.
Among other tasks, I handled designer-friendly map travel nodes, the horse-drawn carriage seen in this post, and chiefly optimizing the project to go from 15 fps to 90 fps in an open world RPG using Nanite and Lumen, by analyzing the project via Unreal Insights. I tutored their art director in the ways of PBR and realistic flesh tones, improving the look/feel of the game tremendously.
Some other features I developed for the game include an awesome slow-mo photo mode (example photos taken by myself shown below), RTX and DLSS and Frame Generation settings, user-rebindable input actions (using Enhanced Input that I refactored into the project) and advanced gameplay/graphics options.
Please see my recommendation from fellow 5th Cell developer Mohsen Sadeghi who worked with me at ER Studios as well.
