Jonah Parzen-Johnson: Look Like You’re Not Looking

Taking the sound of the saxophone itself, recorded at a variety of angles, and manipulated to the point where a new sound emerges, Sleepers Work (William Flynn) produced a glowing dream of a track. More of a sci-fi ambient trip than a remix per se, the track serves as a great example of what can be done when traditional musical instruments, analog and digital technologies come together as one device.
A concise melody is crafted by splicing together different snippets of analog synth and saxophone. Massive amounts of reverb and delay are piled on, creating a rhythmic echo that keeps time to the gentle swaying of the new sounds garnered from Flynn’s experimentation. The melody is reminiscent of something Jagga Jazzist would come up with. All in all, it comes together to soundly round out an equally brilliant EP of two other tracks composed by Parzen-Johnson on saxophone and synthesizer.
